Nearly 40 people from DSC attended the Speak Up & Speak Out Summit last week over the three-day virtual conference! The theme for this year's event was Advocates Unite. The conference included inspiring speakers intending to show people with disabilities they have a voice. Breakout sessions featured self-advocates from across the state, who shared about the activities their groups do.
Everyone enjoyed hearing from Senator Dick Durbin during the Summit. Kendall Johnson, DSC Resource Coordinator said, "It's good to feel seen and heard by one of our Senators."
Dorie attended all three days and shared, "I had a good time and really liked hearing about how I can get support voting in elections."
New self-advocacy groups and activities have already stemmed from Speak Up & Speak Out, and we can't wait to see the impact they create.
